Larry Le and Paul Maday review the rapidly improving storage battery technology, coupled with dropping prices. They describe the current over-supply of photovoltaic energy during peak daylight hours and the continued peak demand for electricity after the sun sets.  Batteries are poised to absorb the excess daytime energy and “shave the peak” at night—all at a reasonable cost. The end result should be cleaner energy at a lower cost.
