The Economic Security
Dr. Colette Brown is a co-author of a new study from the Institute for Women's Policy Research. The paper examines aspects of the economic security of women and men aged 65 and older in Hawai`i, including marital status, poverty, and various sources and amounts of income, with attention to disparities by gender and race/ethnicity. The paper builds on IWPR’s The Economic Security of Older Women and Men in the United States.Takeaway: Key findings identify the challenges that older women face economically, and these often stem from issues earlier in life. Policy changes to develop and support strategies and programs to address these inequities will help older women as they out live men.
